NASCAR® legend Buddy Baker was a hero to many future-generation race car drivers, including NASCAR Hall of Fame® driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. When it became time for Dale Jr. to change his car number in the NASCAR Cup Series® in 2008, he chose the No. 88 in a number font similar to one that Buddy Baker drove in the 1970s and 1980s. Now a NASCAR Xfinity Series® team owner, Dale Jr. is paying homage to Baker with his JR Motorsports No. 88 Chevrolet driven by 18-year-old phenom Connor Zilisch. During the Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR® at Darlington Raceway, where Baker drove to back-to-back spring race victories in 1970 and 1971, Zilisch’s No. 88 WeatherTech Chevrolet will feature throwback elements that turn back the clock to Baker’s paint scheme from the late 1980s.
Now, race fans can now add the official Lionel Racing die-cast of Zilisch’s No. 88 WeatherTech Throwback Chevrolet to their NASCAR® collections. Produced on Lionel Racing’s NASCAR Xfinity Series® Chevy tool, each 1:24-scale replica features an opening hood, rolling retro Goodyear tires, an authentic decal package, and more. Collectors can also choose a 1:24-scale edition signed on the windshield by Zilisch. A 1:24-scale die-cast plated in Lionel Racing’s gleaming Color Chrome finish and a smaller 1:64-scale model are also available for order. Each die-cast features foil metallic numbers, just like the on-track version.
